i actually started looking about a couple of months ago and it is surprisingly cheap, from what ive gathered its like £400 for flights and accomodation etc... but im not sure about the riding, maybe you have to pay extra for lifts and what not.

anyway, i would be up for that!

Yeh it doesn't look that expensive and the experience would be mint. Lift passes are extra but if you go with some challet companies you can get discount on local bike shops, bike hire, lift passes etc.

right then dudes and dudettes heres the low down,
ed's still out in france the lucky twat.

Basically if you race mountain bikes you need to do the mega avalanche. for two weeks it maybe cost me just under a grand? Money well spent.

Next year im planning on doing more races abroad,
in february im going to switzerland to do a glacier race there,
then theres the maxi avalanche 4x race in lyon, then theres the mega sprint race and the mega avalanche in alp d'huez, then the week after that the mountain of hell in les duex alps, which is about 20 minutes away from alp d'huez. Then next september its off to Are in Sweden for the last round of the mega!

I was speaking to a few of the proffessional guys i met out there who do it for a living and they say its jsut as expensive, maybe cheaper than racing the nationals back home here, plus ytou get more value for your money.

And to cap that all off, i've met some MBUK journo's who want to come and look at chewys and im the world cake eating champion for 2008!

Cool
But seriously, you need to get out there next year, im already planning my trip

a bit of topic but how did you get on in the race jammy? did you stick with your mate ed or did you just get tangled in all of the other riders?

I am planning for the trip now and already looking into costs and am starting to save up too!!! Defo wanna do this so would be great if we could get a good nefr turnout over there.

I am really thinking about getting something booked up asap, like in the next couple of months, so any ideas people who would be going so we can think of numbers for chalets??

Please post below if your interested!!! Like Jammy said just under a grand for 2 weeks is real good value i think. Compared to magaluf last year when i spent nearly that in a week!!!

By the way Jammy Where did you stay was it LesGets or Morzine and approx how much was the chalet?

the mega is an all round freeride type race. Its a mass start of hundreds of riders and consits of downhill, single track and climbs. can take anything from 50min to hours to complete.

They say the best type of bike to do it on is a 6 inch travel do it all bike, ie it climbs better than a DH bike but still descends better than an XC bike.

I aren't sure if i would be entering the mega but probably will. Its just after all the reports i hear off mates who have been to france i really wanna and ride there.

Taking bikes over is easy just box em up and stick em on the plane

listen guys, saying its a race thats got up hills is a load of bullshit, it the qualifier theres about a hundred metre stretch of small inclined road and in the main mega theres about a 5 minute climb!
No i wasnt racing ben because of my wrist. But ed got 17 in his race and 11th over all in his category (seniors) and andy fowles one of my best mates got 16th in his race and 10 over all in seniors! fucking pinned it. Unfortunately i was just filming, but next year im going back and kicking arse or i plan to Laughing
its brilliant fun and the lager is shit hot out there
