hi, i would like some advise on getting my first down hill bike.
im new to mountain biking as i was a pro skateboarder but had to stop in 2004 due to too many broken bones to list. im from guis and thought ive got good riding on my doorstep so why not break bones that haven't been broke yet. ive been riding xc since i stopped skating to help build ligerment and mucsle damage but bored of that now. need to start throwing myself down mountains like you boys.
the set up ive been thinking of is a big hit 1 but upgrading the fork to 888
im not really fussed on doing tricks over jumps.been doing that on a skateboard for over ten years. i just want to ride fast down rough terrain and go of big drops.is this bike what i need?

well if your looking for a good sturdy downhill bike that is cost effective i would say buy a specialized big hit 3, both me and matty have got them. they cost around £2000 but take some serious damage. i have just started donwill and i have hit trees, rocks, roots everything and it is still in good condition with nothing breaking so far. on saturday i went to hamsterley and nailed my front wheel on a rock, the tyre sqashed right down and it bottomed out on the rim and i didnt even get a puncture. they are a good bike to learn on, as they dont cost as much as others, like a orange 224 (£4200). buy a big hit, they are awesome.

to be honest, it doesnt really matter. i got my bighit from bikescene and it was last years model but the quality of the bike doesnt really changes they just keep bringing a new model out each year.
